My (delayed) thoughts on Stormborn

I’ll be honest, I don’t have a lot to say about this week’s episode.  My regular readers know that I find Arya terribly boring, and the same applies to Samwell.  Since they took up a lot of space on this episode, I’ll keep this brief.

It’s obvious that Sam is going to cure Jorah, and Jorah will probably save Daenerys out of nowhere at some point.  I’ll admit I’m over Jorah and his lack of a storyline.  He served a purpose for the first few seasons but his character feels extraneous to me.  Especially since there are so many other delicious characters to spend time with (see Lady Olenna, Lady Mormont, et al.).

How long have we waited for Daenerys to be in the same room with Ellaria, Yara, AND Olenna, with a side of Tyrion and Varys?  You can see how D2 is bringing all of the various factions into one place for the wars to come.  The irony is that no one besides boring Jon Snow is focused on the real threat.  I’m still trying to figure out who the leaker is.

I guess I have to talk about the ambush scene at the end.  The special effects were awesome, to be sure.  However, Euron and his crazy eyes are just too much.  FW believes he’ll get killed by the end of this season, and I hope he’s right.  I like Yara’s character but I’m not sure what will happen to her.  I expect that Ellaria is the “gift” Euron promised to Cersei.

Oh, Theon.  I have no words.

Whole new meaning for “hold the door”

Well that was quite an episode.  In my first run through, I thought it was a boring episode.  However, I watched it a second time and have a newfound respect for the ending.  I thought we already knew that Bran could go back in time and influence events when his dad heard him yell at the Tower of Joy scene last week?  The flashback scene was very well done and I liked how D2 overlapped the past with the present.  It just wasn’t that surprising to me.

One thing that made me laugh about the WW scene was how much faster these zombies are compared to the ones on The Walking Dead.  RIP Direwolf (Summer?), whose death I was much more upset about than Hodor.

I’m wondering why Sansa lied to the group about how she learned of Blackfish’ army?  Is the show setting up some sort of conflict between Sansa and Jon later since he’s not technically a Stark?  I’d hate to see that because these two need all the help they can get.  I still think Sansa will kill Ramsay but she will end up dead herself somehow.  Now’s the time where the show will start to kill off more major characters to narrow the field for the end.

Arya is still boring.  Please unleash her.  My fellow viewer believes she will kill Jaqen and the stick girl which is intriguing.  Maybe that will get her out of that boring storyline and back to assassinations.

I bet the Children are regretting creating the White Walkers!  I wonder if Bran can go back in time and undo that?  FV thinks not, as he believes Bran can influence events but not change them per se.  We’ll see.

Speaking of Bran, what a dumbass!  He had to go and see what was lurking behind all of those zombies?  What did he think he’d find, flowers and unicorns?  Bran was always my least favorite Stark, as he’s the most boring.  He better redeem himself now, especially since so many people have had to die so he could live.

I’m a bit perplexed as to why the residents of Pike would elect that psychopath who’s been away for so long?  FV remarked that perhaps it’s a reflection on current events, i.e. Trump v. HRC.  Maybe the electorate on Pike is so vehemently opposed to a woman in power that they were willing to go with the megalomaniac instead?  Just a thought.  I will say that the setting on Pike is spectacular.  It looks like Ireland to me.

Time for Jorah to go, but I fear he will be back to rescue Daenerys in the end.  His storyline has come to an end as far as I’m concerned.

We need to talk about Kinvara.  She scares me, sort of like the little girl in the Exorcist.  There’s that line again, “Who said anything about him?”.  I did note that she was wearing the same necklace that Melisandre wears, so are we to assume that she’s an old hag as well?

I’m excited to watch tomorrow night’s episode since it falls on a holiday weekend.  I hope to stay up and write about it after but we’ll see.  Happy watching!

Random thoughts on last week’s GOT and finale questions/predictions

I just had the chance to watch last week’s ep again, even though I didn’t want to watch what I think is the most upsetting scene ever seen on tv.  The “previously on” scenes intimated what would happen but I didn’t want to believe it.  Query did Ser Davos know what was to come and is that why he gave Shireen the figurine?  Obviously Stannis sent him away so he wouldn’t stop the Shireen sacrifice but did Davos know she was toast (literally)?  That wasn’t clear to me.  I’m interested to see what his reaction will be to her death.

Arya is boring.  That is all.

I have to say I was also bored by the Meereen fight of course until Drogon showed up.  I’m ready for Daenerys to leave this boring ass city and get to King’s Landing.  None of these harpy people interest me and I hope D2 merely used them as a vehicle for Dany to get to Westeros.  It was a little insensitive of her to leave her posse behind though.

Finale predictions/questions:

1.Arya will still be boring.

2.Cersei will confess to the High Sparrow and some terrible punishment will be meted upon her.  Hopefully ending in death.

3.Will Jorah’s greystone infect anyone else?

4.Stannis defeats and kills Boltons but Brienne kills Stannis as revenge for Renly.  Sansa becomes Warden of the North.  Will Littlefinger be there to join her?

5.Where is Varys?

6.No idea what’s in store for Jon Snow.  I feel like he lives until the end of the show but it’s hard to say.

7.Not sure where the Tyrells fit in but remember at the end of season three they came out of nowhere to help save the day.  I feel like the queen of thorns will do something big but not sure what.

As you can see, a lot of unanswered questions.  I’m hoping to get a post up Monday night.  Thanks for reading!

Shots in the dark on Season Five (and beyond?) from a non-book reader (comments welcome but no spoilers please)

1.Ser Jorah either saves Dany or rides in at the end to help her ascend the throne.  I seem to remember a preview of the season showing him fighting someone in a Colosseum-type stadium – perhaps another trial by combat?  Let’s hope it doesn’t end with a squeezed head (see Red Viper, explosion).

2.Melisandre helps Jon Snow figure out his true lineage and he takes the throne.  Not sure how this happens though.  I’ve seen hints online that his parent(s) isn’t/aren’t who we think but I haven’t gone further with it and don’t want to for fear of spoiling it, like I did with the red wedding.

3.The Sands take out Cersei.  See my previous post on Cersei but I just don’t see her character lasting much longer.  I think the Ds will make us think they will take out Jaime but it will be her instead.

4…Or maybe it will be Arya?  Not sure where her story is going but I feel like she deserves revenge on a Lannister and who better than Cersei.

5.Stannis is killed by either the Wildlings or the Boltons.  Great character but with too many “cooks in the kitchen” where the throne is concerned, he looks like the easy out to me.  Or maybe the lord of light will protect him?

6.Tywin is still alive!  Just kidding 🙂

This site is still a work in progress so please bear with me in terms of formatting, etc.  Thanks so much for reading!
